Coffee Conversation #1: Mountain Coffee Makes the Difference

Posted by Dan Nedelko on

Do you ever just take that first sip of a really good coffee and wonder how exactly all those flavors come together to make it taste so good?

At Standpoint Coffee we set out to create a unique experience for you, giving you that supreme taste you deserve in a cup of coffee.

But how do we do it?

Our business was constructed on 3 core elements:

  • Source mountain coffee beans from the best growing regions of the world above 4000 Feet.
  • Micro-batch roast the coffee beans separately before crafting exceptional coffees.
  • Offer freshly roasted coffee to discerning coffee drinkers.

An exceptional cup of coffee starts high up in the mountains. The best coffees are produced in mountain regions close to the equator. Our signature coffee beans come from the highest elevation regions in the Coffee Belt. The Coffee Belt (also called the Bean Belt) is the region between latitudes 15°N and 15°S. It is the ideal climatic conditions for coffee to grow.

Here are some example high altitude areas in the Coffee Belt:

  • Columbia
  • Ethiopia
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Nicaragua
  • Peru

Coffee grown higher up on mountains (Higher Altitude) produce hard, dense beans that are more sought-after than beans grown at lower elevations. These types of beans are known as Hard Beans and have a higher concentration of sugars – known to produce subtle flavors.

These specialty coffees command higher market prices due to their exceptional vibrancy, flavor, lower yield per coffee plant, and the challenges posed to coffee farmers. These coffees are also hand farmed due to the mountainous terrain.

Some of the highest growth regions are in Ethiopia where coffee grows on the mountain above 7000 feet or 2000 masl. Our two highest altitude coffees both contain Ethiopian coffee.

Coffee growing elevations, Standpoint Coffee.

See the difference for yourself. Try a coffee that is produced from a lower elevation and you’ll see how soft and bland the taste will be compared to 5,000 feet where your taste buds will be enticed by spicy, floral or fruity notes.

If you want to try some exceptional, bold and delicious coffee - we have many organic blends for you to choose from.

Drop those instant coffees and fast food coffees and try any of our Signature Blends ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 ft elevation - we promise you won’t be disappointed.
